Foxes Amazing Volcanoes

We have been making volcanoes out of paper mache. We decided to create the different types of volcanoes that we have been learning about.

First we designed our models and then rolled pieces of newspaper into balls to create the shape of our volcano. We taped the newspaper balls together to build our volcanoes.

Next we cut up strips of paper and glued them around our newspaper volcanoes.

We painted them and then used tissue paper to make the different lava flows that each type of volcano produces.

Here are our amazing finished volcanoes.

Composite Volcanoes
These have steep sides and create huge explosions of burning rock and gas.

Lava Dome Volcanoes
These have lava that is too thick to flow. It creates a steep sided mound where the lava piles up near the vent.

Cinder Cone Volcanoes
The erupting lava breaks off into small pieces as it shoots in the air. As the small pieces fall back to the ground they cool and form cinders around the vent.

Shield Volcanoes
These are shaped like a shield. The lava is runny and there are no explosions. As the lava cools it creates long, gentle slopes.

We had a lot of fun making these and worked collaboratively in teams.
We hope you like them.

Erupting Volcanoes

What great fun we had today making exploding volcanoes! First we made some dough out of flour and water. We used a yoghurt pot as our m...
